I do not want to present Revolut because it seems that everyone knows about it. In Romania there are over 100.000 users. I heard about it from my friends that are already huge fans. I am happy with my bank that I am working and I think that everything Revolut does, my bank does it better 😊
What is Revolut ?
Just google it and you will find a tone of articles. I am just sick and tired of this topic. I just want to get it out of my system 😊
So you download and install the Revolut App and you are done. So they say…But really, there are costs, more or less hidden, once you go on with your account opening you find out more and more. The first and the most “important” thing that Revolut does is…guess what… the national bank exchange rate!?
What?
I am laughing my ass of right now, again, because I know people that use Revolut and did not once used this option…because they do not travel abroad!!!!
And once you go abroad you have to be careful to use the local currency, not the £ - because yes Revolut works under England accounts 😊😉. If you choose to pay with the Pound there are extra fees when you pay your gyros in Skiathos Island (Greece). And that is a no no with my bank!

In the weekends, it nice for them to give away a 0.5% on the exchange rate, not that can do that on their own powers, but the FOREX trading system is off until Monday 😊
Just like I was saying in one of my posts on LinkedIn, Revolut is the no.1 option ONLY, and ONLY when you travel abroad 2 or 3 times each month!! And I can guess that not even 10% out of the Romanian users do that ☹
I am sorry, but even I go on only 2 or 3 holidays per year – not in the 2018, because I gave myself one big financial damage finishing with the furniture for the house I bought ☹ - It`s not easy being on your own with a new house, but it is god damn beautiful.
From December 2018, Revolut got it`s European Banking License, this is good, but what now? They will have to obey to the National Bank of Romania and it`s ruling book, so, it will become another bank in Romania that will have to charge it`s users with some extra fees just to have a financial profit…so, back to square one I say, actually they already do charge them a bigger fee than I have with my actual bank.
They said that the first Visa/MasterCard card will be free, but some of the users reported that they did pay the sum of 27 RON (approx 5 euro) to get the Visa/MasterCard!!
As a conclusion, I will not use Revolut because I already have my orange lion bank (get it? …ING Bank has the orange lion as it`s logo) that is providing me with everything I need.

Of course, everyone is free to make their own choices regarding banking apps. But, I say, as one ex-banker, do close all your other bank accounts that you do not use anymore!!
